Hi - Fair suggestions. Lots of places to talk, but not quite enough discussion going on to fill them all.
What do other folks think?

Hi chris
We need someplace to discuss SEDS issues - Currently news and announcments is used - but the moderator has to approve every message so it is pretty cumbersome :(

....and perhaps some banner links from other space-related sites could increase traffic....

I've added a general SEDS discussion area...

OK, I'll use an old, dead thread for this...
I have a few suggestions to streamline the SEDS forums a bit.
1) I would drop the "SEDS conference" forum group and simply add a "SEDS conference" forum to the "General SEDS Topics" forum group. The "General Discussion" forum in the "SEDS Conference" section confuses some posters, plus I think that the conference discussion can be well organized in just one forum, not five.
2) In "General SEDS Topics," I think that "Alumni" and "Fundraising" could be condensed into "General SEDS ORganization Discussion."
Well, that's it, really. If we attract many more chapters, it might pay off to include the individual chapters under their regions in the Chapter Area. That is, just have forums in the Chapter Area for the Midwest, Atlantic, etc. regions and then the individual chapters under that.
What do you all think?

I definitely agree on condensing the SEDS conference into one forum.
Organizing the chapter forums into regional discussion areas might be good too. Should we remove the chapter forums of inactive chapters? Chapter forums should be a priviledge of the paid SEDS chapers. That would help to clear out that area of the forums a ton.

Does anyone disagree with these changes? If not, let's do it!

I agree with the changes, but as there are not too many people who check this forum regularly, might want add it to the agenda for the next exec board meeting for a formal 'Does this sound like a good idea to everyone'.

Forum changes really don't need to soak up any exec board time. I would say that the regular forum users would be the best judge of what things should be.

Okay, I've condensed and collapsed all the sub-forums and threads from the SEDS Conference area into one forum called "SEDS Conference." This one has been moved to the regular SEDS area.
I've also created a new "archival" area for inactive chapter forums. Kirk had put together a suggestions for ones to start with (Stanford, Harvard, Texas), and those have been moved to that area. They are closed for new posts, but are visible to all in case someone stumbles along and wants to revive those chapters. I've already out-right deleted old chapter forums that were never used, as there no point in keeping around "nothing."
As for the remaining inactive chapter forums, I've got a request into Kirk to decide which should go. Personally, I think two school years of inactivity should be the limit, as sometimes there are transitional effects, but usually after that length of time, the chapter may have formally disolved. Also, in cases where we know the chapter is active, but just not using there forum, we should also keep it around.
