Hi,
I have talked about this to a couple of ppl when I was at the WSC and I think this change in SEDS structure will help a lot to its stablity and its reach to new ppl.

The change is simple, move the chapter from a single college/university basis to a city/regional chapter.
For instance, let's say that in houston we have rich university, university of houston and probably a couple others within 30 minutes of ride.
So instead of having different chapters for each place, which gives you a much smaller pool of active ppl and of ppl who will come to activites, you will have one big pool of ppl.

I mean, IMHO it is stupid that if we have U. of rice organize a lecture, it is very logical that space fans in U. of houston have no clue about it!
WHY?
they are very close to each other (less then 30 minutes is close for me) and you are missing out ppl. Also a lot of chapters die cause there are not enought ppl who are active - and that's a direct cause of a small pool of ppl to choose from.
Another important factor for region(city) based chapters is that it provides much easier acsess to alumnee to participate and help. (and of course come to lectures etc...)

So it is a very short explanation of my point, but I think that this change can help a lot to SEDS!

I completely agree. Something else to consider might be getting high school students involved....who in turn would propogate the message wherever they go after graduation....
