In response to impalaplaya's request on the Q&A board, I thought I post a couple of interesting quotes that I've come across.

-- Eugene Delacroix

Personal self-satisfaction is the death of the scientist. Collective self-satisfaction is the death of the research. It is restlessness, anxiety, dissatisfaction, agony of the mind that nourish science.
-- Jaques-Lucien Monod

No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.
-- Voltaire

I probably have more quotes lying about somewhere. If I find any more, I'll post them here.
