I'm creating a Mars Trilogy Encyclopedia and Atlas with maps, a complete index, timeline, character bios, glossary etc. for Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars, plus The Martians.

For now, the working site is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/areophanyproject

For discussion discussion about the trilogy, there's a Kim Stanley Robinson and Mars Trilogy fan discussion board at the Demimonde (http://pub25.ezboard.com/bthedemimonde). Its probably the most active and established community of Kim Stanley Robinson fans.

I used to have a copy of the first book lying around for ages, but I could never seem to get past the first chapter...

I should probably give it another try, I guess.

The Sci-fi will be showing their mini-series adaptation of the first book sometime later this year. Probably in the fall...I definately will try to catch it.

Wow, they made a miniseries? Since when?

And yes, these are an EXCELLENT series of books for anyone into the colonization of Mars.

If you like Kim Stanley's style, do check out his other book, Antartica.

Aparently, James Cameron brought th rights years back, but nothing came of it for a while.

Then Sci-fi took interest.

Now, sci-fi has been mentioninging "Red Mars" briefly in their commercial highlighting the upcomming year's programs. )If JC is still, in part, involved, I dunno....)

Sci-fi is usually pretty great at miniseries - they just do sclock B monser movies.

The new "Battlestar Galactica" was great, and "Children of Dune" was also (at least part 2)

....and there are many parts of the storyline of "Episode III" that seem lifted *straight* out of "Children of Dune" (the mini) including the birth of the boy and girl twins/death of the mother/assination while this is all going on...

I think Lucas cribbed a bit...

hey

yes, that's a really good book. in the science fiction genre, i suspect it to be one of the top 5 books. but as you know, its as wide and diverse as it gets :) for anyone who hasn't read it yet - what are you waiting for?! go here (http://www.fetchbook.info/red_mars.html) for example, and get going :) trust me, you will not regret it for a second.

Best,
Jason
