A place to discuss on the follow-up of the National Chapters Review at SEDS International Confernce 2007. Let's do it!

Sorry to be so brief, but here are two quick things that can be done:
* Add a paragraph about what happened at the national chapters review at http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/SEDSIC2007_Post-Event_Report#SEDS_National_Chapter_Review
* Add additional information from the national chapters review to http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/SEDS_National_Chapter_Review

I'm sending out the report on Monday 22 Oct, so please reply soon.

Here are a few things we discussed when we were there:

1. One SEDS logo for _every_ chapter in the world for when inviting to events from SEDS and the use of the chapter's logo for their own events, if they want to.
2. Exchange of materials (audio, video, books etc) between chapters.
3. More projects like SEDSat 2 so that more people get to work internationally.

Is there a structure in place to ensure that the above is being followed up on?

No. There isn't.

Currently, SEDS Earth does not have help from outside. All of you are supposed to help out. No structure yet.

I think we discussed at the chapter review session that any student who doesn't belong to a national chapter or can't get to one/operate one can still be a member of SEDS-Earth.

Maybe we need to prepare a membership registration procedure and put it on the SEDS-Earth website soon.

:)

Pradipta,

As of now, everyone on the SEDS-Earth mailing list is a member of SEDS-Earth. There is no membership registration procedure as such.

@Lavina,

If you mean does SEDS-Earth have a strucutre, we do have a SEDS-Earth Council of 3 people who run SEDS-Earth mailing list, blog, forums etc. We request help on the mailing list whenever we try to do something that can't be done by the 3 people alone.

I just figured I aught to mention again that I am building a website (that is becoming quite filled out now) for seds canada that I plan on making available to seds earth when it becomes a bit more polished. For sneak peaks of what it is about, some of the things it does, check out canada.seds.org.

@Mike

You can perhaps send an email to the seds-earth mailing list and ask for help if you want.

Dealing with the first issue as stated above. Before designing a new logo, you should have a look at these: http://gallery.seds.org/v/SEDS/logos/. There are some 70 items in there I think.

Also, how do you plan to decide on which logo to use? Voting?

First of all, thank's Kirk for that last reminder ;)

Second of all, I am now the president of SEDS Canada (yay!).

With both of those things said, it is really great that I can look to kirk and all the rest of you for inspiration and leadership (as well as contributing it), as apparently I am now expected to be the one who provides it in my own organization :S ;)

So, some news: We just had our annual summit (and I attended the american one as well, thought you might be interested), and we seem to be going strong as an organization. At least we have many people on our exec board, and at least three of us seem to be quite motivated Time will tell. Also, we seem to be doing a good job (so far) of working with the other canadian space organizations, and that feels quite empowering :)

Right now, what I am working on is the way we present ourselves through the medium of our website. Specifically, I am working on a banner to put at the top of our home page that states in a dramatic and powerful way who we are, what we want, what we do, and what motivates us, yada yada :)

My inspiration for this is the banner at the top of the seds usa site, which I think is quite brilliant :) Good job seds usa!

I asked the other execs at the last meeting how they would feel if I just stole the seds usa banner to use on our site, and they all agreed with me that this would not be appropriate :( So I am making our own :)

With all that said, as I said in a previous post, I am making a website whose functionality and possibly style as well, I would be very interested in contributing to seds earth to support the devellopment of that site.

An interesting question to ask is would we be interested in establishing a common "look" for all seds national sites, that being the "look" of the seds earth site? This might involve taking the "modules" of the existing sites, getting them to work together, and changing around all the styles so everything looks good...

I am saying this because obviously (at least I think obviously), the seds forums are pretty sophisticated, and I don't really see the point of re-creating them for the seds canada site just for the purpose of unifying their style with the style of the site I am building. That, and I really hate the present style of the forums ;) to formal. I'd like to seem more sparkle! Pictures of nebulas or star fields or something...

Understood, the project I am proposing might pe pretty horrendous. I supose it all depends on how important you feel our image and presence on the web is...

Anyway, I seem to have run out of things to say ;)

I hope you have found all this enlightning! I have certainly found typing it to be enjoyable ;)

Let me know what yall think will you?

-Cheers, Mike.

Just to establish something about blogs.

Blogs are a great communicating tool after your decision making process is over or is a great way to keep record of completed activities.

So, a record of the Space Summit you attended looks better on a blog.

The Forums make more sense when you're brainstorming. Blogs cannot be used for that. Forums can be used for the reason for maintaining blogs as well.

Sorry, I have a soft corner for blogs.

Good to see the forums active again.

Just a thought before I rush into the world of studies (have my exams beginning Dec 7).

We used to have a lot of group chats earlier in SEDS-Earth. We used to have these sessions on Y! chat. Maybe, we could revive the practise. It'll be chaotic but it can help sometimes -- SEDSAT 2 came out of such chaotic sessions, for example -- and it's a lot better than no communication between chapters!!

Tell me what you think
