On Nov 10-11, 2007 the city of Luxembourg will see the 1st European Workshop on Space Elevator Climber and Tether Design. The conference is hosted by EuroSpaceward and the National Research Fund of Luxembourg and intends to team up American as well as European engineers and scientists in the pursuit of establishing further space elevator system development teams and centres in Europe. In addition the presentations given will convey key insight into the latest results of the NASA Beam Power and Tether Challenges, held 2 weeks ago in Salt Lake City. Among the top lecturers are Dr. Brad Edwards and Ben Shelef, the fathers of the modern space elevator concept resp. games, Dr. Pierre Rochus from the Space Center Liège, Prof. Vesselin Shanov from the University of Cincinnati who achieved record length carbon nanotube arrays, the potential building block of a space elevator cable, Dr. Marcello Motta, an expert in CNT applications from the Department of Material Science at Cambridge University as well as Clayton Ruszkowski, USST team leader from the University of Saskatchewan that placed first in all three NASA beam power competitions held since 2005 .
