cyril_13 / frdecrane, do you have an Assessment Exercise (Group Exercise)? or just the technical interview? I've got an interview at ESOC next week, xD.
Good Luck!
cyril_13
February 28th, 2008, 12:43 PM
No group Exercise.. luckily!
No twas like all the job interviews I had before. Talking a bit you you, describing the position (most of the time they were talking ;) and then a few questions about the project... all the questions I had were really simple. Just the basis (if the position is to study galileo systems, they'd like you to know how's a global positionning system's working (atomic times...) i think.)
Nothing to worry about, if you know what you're talking about everything's gonna go smoothly ;)
good luck

I heard that all interviews for one position are normally on the same day, interview lasts about 30 - 45 minutes... I don´t think more than 8 people are interviewed, I guess about 4-5..
I must agree, being interviewed is really a big achievement!
Good luck, don´t be too excited, the people at esa are all very friendly!

Hi guys,
Ive been reading your thread for sometime. I've applied to YGT at ESTEC and had my interview on February 14th. I was told that they would have a reply for me by the end of march and would let me know if I did or didnt get the job. I called last week and they told me that I would know in two weeks time. I figure that I should have an answer by the end of this week. Maybe you all will too. I might call them soon to see how it's going. I'll let you know what I hear. Good luck everyone !

Hi guys,
they seem to have some delays..
My future manager told me she asked the HR that I'd start on the 1st of April.
The HR dpt called me on hte 3rd........ I should start late May.
So even if it's difficult... be patient.. it will come!
(i've been told that new YGTs start from may to July.. so if your position starts in july, you might wait a bit more.. but that's just my opinion, nothing official)
Good luck

Hi all,
I just talked to HR and they said that I was a back up candidate. They are waiting for acceptance from another person and if he or she denies the job then I will be contacted. who would go through the trouble of an interview and then deny a great opportunity like this? oh well :( Good luck to the rest of you!

One of my friend got the position (it was some years ago). He had also found a job on satelite for Alcatel, in Cannes, France. He took the job there and denied the ESA...
Things happen... good luck to ya!

just to let you know... all the YGT starts at the beginning of each month. My future "boss" (not sure how to call her) wanted me to start on the 26th of may, but the HR said i could only start either on the 2nd of may or the 2nd of June...

Hi guys.
Yesterday I spoke with the HR regarding my position(49 Control Engineering Modeling and Simulations - Lisa Pathfinder).
They will tell me the answer this week or next week in the worst case.
The decision has been made but the have to wait for the signed documents.
Anyway, the selected candidate for my position will start on September.
Good luck again and congratulations to Cyril.

That's interesting Buick,
Did they say who they needed to get signatures from?
I was told to email back yesterday so I did and HR got back to me today. in my case they said that they are waiting on a signature from the candidate who is in first place (so to speak) until the end of the month and if they dont hear back from that person by the end of the month I will be contacted. Perhaps some of you are in the same situation.

If I get accepted at ESA, I will probably have to decide between the YGT and a half scholarship for the SSP+MSS at the International Space University. It's quite a tough call. I might choose ISU mainly because if I don't make it in time with my thesis, I won't be able to accept at ESA (they only take graduated people) and I would lose both opportunities (I wouldn't mind any of you telling me whether this reasoning is dumb or not, please do).
Good luck with your applications! I'll update if I know anything.

Thats a nice situation to be in Gal.. too many good options,
Right now Im stuck in a dead-end job, finishing my masters thesis and waiting to hear back from the ESA (of course). Im really looking forward to moving abroad and working for the ESA but, the waiting is unreal. I've heard nothing new from them in the last little while but, there is one new YGT position open. Does anyone know when they release the next batch of YGT positions ?

Hi all,
I just realized about this forum. cyril_13, I also got the YGT for ESTEC and I will start the 1st of June.
Are you already looking for an apartment? I don't really know how to find something before going there.
Any suggestions?
Maybe... see you in ESTEC ;)
cyril_13
April 16th, 2008, 10:05 AM
Hi Helen,
I will also probably start the 2nd of June (if not, the week before).
You should get in touch with the relocation office to have all details about the appartments available over there.
I emailed them the day I got the position, they just came back to me today and asked me some questions (budget, location...)
I'm working at the moment and I'll quit my current job on the 23rd of May and drive to Holland straight afterwards. I won't be able to visit any appartment until I get there, and I'll prob stay in a B&B for a few days.
It seems to be able to do flatsharing, but haven't heard from the relocation office yet. I've done that last year when I was living in London, and it's quite a good option for just year...
Hope this helped. Mail me for more details.
P.S: What position did you get?

Hi everyone!
I got a position for project 46 at ESTEC, starting the 1st of September, wohoo! (Got the reply about a month ago). Anyone know how much time before starting the job is a good time to go and view flats?
If some of the people starting earlier could give some insight into their "accomodation hunt" experience it would be great!
Regards, and congrats to all fellow YGT acceptees!

working at estec is going well... for me at least :)
social life's good, work's fine...
Most of the YGTs are living in Leiden. You get a full support of the relocation office and as surprising as it seems most of us have found a place to live within 2-3 days max... You don't need to worry about that.
See you later.

hi to all, i am currently planning to apply to one of the next young graduate trainee opportunities. i am interested in descriptions of the old opportunities, unfortunately they are not accessable anymore and i can't find any in the web. do some of you still have their descriptions or even more of them? i am especially interested in informatics positions.
