A ham radio is a great way to:
1. talk to people interested in space in India and various parts of India - eg. people at ISRO have a ham radio club. You have access to ISRO scientists that you didn't earlier have.
2. learn the basics of communications - useful for space projects
3. pass time if you love to innovate.
In India, you have to obtain a ham radio license to operate a ham radio set. Some of the basics has been put together well by a website called HamRadioIndia - http://www.hamradioindia.org/amateur_radio/
After getting a license, you can also start your own ham radio club and talk to other clubs across the globe.
I'm also in the process of obtaining a license. Let's use this forum to help each other.
