SEDS-USA is planning a summer road trip to Washington, DC to participate in the National Space Society's (http://www.nss.org) International Space Development Conference. The conference runs from Thursday, May 19 to Sunday, May 22; students are invited to arrive any day after Monday, May 16. We will spend the days before the conference touring the capital, hanging out, and having a good time!
Conference registration for students is $45. However, many SEDS-USA members will actually be working as volunteers at the conference. Working two 4 hour shifts at the conference guarantees free admission for the remainder of the event, and gives you the opportunity to work along side other space enthusiasts.
The conference will feature speakers from all sides of the space industry, as well as panels and workshops with the speakers. Featured speakers include Dr. James Garvin and Dr. Steven Squyres of NASA, Burt Rutan of Scaled Composites, Dr. Peter Diamandis of X-Prize, Elon Musk of SpaceX, and many, many more. SEDS-USA will also be making a presentation, and have a general meeting during the conference.
To further save money, SEDS-USA plans to find lodging for all road trip participants with students and professionals living in the DC area. Not only will this save you money on lodging, but it will provide you with some excellent connections in the industry.
Here's the bottom line. Free lodging, free admission, and a week in DC with students from around the nation. Sound like fun? If so, send Mark Schaffer (mark AT seds.org) an email to plan a road trip from your school!
If you have any questions or comments, please post them here.
