For all of the MITSEDS members, and anyone else who may be coming to the Boston area we will post our major upcoming activities here (we'll try to keep them updated somewhat), and you can also find them on our webpage which also has much more interesting stuff too... http://web.mit.edu/mitseds/www/ ...)

For the summer we have several activities going on:

July 20th: SEDS Summer Day @ MIT
- we will be showing the star wars movies starting at 1pm and having lunch/dinner at our SEDS office with good ole space discussion focusing.

July 25th: Space Station 3-D IMAX trip.
- we'll all meet at the SEDS office (rm445 student center) and have a little dinner, then take off to the IMAX for the 7:15 showing of "Space Station 3-D" Pizza will be provided, but you'll need money for the IMAX movie.

August 9th: Wallace Observatory Trip.
- We will be taking a small trip out to the MIT Wallace Observatory to view all the wonders of the cosmos. If we can get enough cars we'll try to take our telescopes out and do some astrophotography too. Meet at the SEDS office at 7:30pm.

August 31st: SEDS Day @ MIT!
- we will introduce the freshmen to SEDS and have a great speaker (tbd) come in to talk about some great space topic. After the presentation we'll have pizza provided at the office again and some more good SEDS space discussion.

September 12th: MITSEDS General Body Meeting.
- we'll meet with the general body of SEDS here at MIT to discuss where we want our chapter to go, what kind of activities we want to do, etc. if you are at all interested in getting involved or just voicing your opinion about what you want SEDS to be doing, you should come to this meeting.

There will be more events posted as time goes on, and more details on these events. Hope to see you all come out.

-Joshua.

Our group is planning a great slew of events for november, if you are interested in one or more events please send us an email to let us know:

Nov. 9th -- Leonids Meteor Information Session.
Antonia will be holding a short presentation about the leonids and meteor showers in general. She will also go over a little bit about the telescopes and how to use them, and how to best view the leonids. This event is open to the public, and will be held in the SEDS office (student centter room 445).

Nov. 16th -- Wallace Observatory Trip.
We will be heading out to Wallace to use their telescopes and get to some nice dark skies. There is much in the sky this time of year that is great for beginning observers. We will also probably be able to catch a few leading meteors from the Leonids. You must RSVP (email: neubjr@mit.edu) for this trip as space is limited

Nov. 18th -- Leonids Meteor Storm Trip.
SEDS will be getting a van to head out to a nice dark state park (or similar area, exact destination TBD) where the skies will be perfect for Leonid's viewing. We will probably not leave until 8-9pm and not come back until late morning (5-6am). The Leonid's do not peak until about 4:30am eastern time. You must RSVP for this trip as well. We will provide snacks and warm drinks, but please bring a sleeping bag, or blankets or just warm clothes because it will definitely get cold during the night. But this year's Leonid's are going to be the BEST New England has seen in a while.

MITSEDS is also holding regular Movie nights fridays at 7:30pm. Movies TBD each week.

please check the MIT IAP guide for all the SEDS activities going on. There will be several movie nights and other observing activities throughout IAP. Then SEDS will be back in the full swing of things for the spring. :)
