Iowa State is participating. We are just finishing working on modeling out our full system's performance and will begin construction in August-September.

The Challenge has now been postponed.

It was to launch a rocket from a high-altitude balloon, and was an altitude competition between several different university groups.

The Cambridge team have continued their project even though the Challenge has been postponed indefinitely.

The Challenge has not been postponed indefinitely. There have been some problems in the last year finding a host site, but we are making progress and the organizers are aiming for a November 2009 competition time slot.

Idle speculation helps no one, if you have any questions about the competition, please ASK!

Other schools with teams developing rockoons:
MIT
University of Arizona
And I believe either Buffalo or Boulder is also developing one as we speak.

It wasn't idle speculation. It was the last update we had.

Brief update:

We've had a VERY positive response from Stratofox about their helping us run the competition logistics, and helping with rockoon recovery.

Also at Space Access we had a large number of people stress that FAR or Blackrock are probably the best possible sites for us.
