Hi,
I am looking for a bit of clarification on what is expected of entrants to the first phase of the competition, the rules here http://earth.seds.org/rovers.php state that we need to create display posters and a 5 min video.
So I take it that the 10 slides of display posters are supposed to describe and analyse my rover concept, but should it be designed for a single person to read up close, or a group of people at a distance (like a presentation)?

Finally, is the video needed to completely describe the concept, so that it would be understandable to someone without reading the posters, or is it more of an accompaniment?

Thank you for any replies in advance.

Hi Andy, sorry for the delay -- I had this forum set to "moderate new threads" due to the spam...

For a typical conference -- say, the upcoming International Astronautical Conference, and most others I've been to -- there are three parts to presenting: (1) abstract; (2) paper; (3) presentation.

In this case, (2) paper is substituted with (2) video. We do not expect that your 10 slides will contain as many details as a paper would contain, so the video is your opportunity to describe the important features of the design, as you would have done in the paper. (Frankly, the judges read enough papers at work, and we think you write enough at university, so we wanted something different.)

Our expectation for the slides is the first thing you mentioned: for a group of people to read up close. These will be posted to a wall in the display area.

Does this answer your question? If you need any quick help, my email address is posted in my profile. Good luck.

Yes that does answer my question, and that was hardly a delay - you gave me a reply within half an hour!

I totally agree with presenting the concepts in this way, should be fun.

ah, yes... the default setting on this forum is US Mountain Time and I'm in Eastern Time... so I thought I was 2.5 hours in posting your thread, not just 0.5 hours :)
